Myco Structure

Arles, 2021 - on going

Material research
For Atelier Luma

In the South of France, mushrooms hold significant cultural value—primarily as a food source—and play a vital role in maintaining the natural balance of the region’s ecosystems. The study of mycelium opens up a wide range of possibilities, from alternative protein sources and soil bioremediation to the development of bio-composite materials.

Myco Structure is an ongoing research project focused on building an archive of locally sourced materials made from regional mushroom species and plant-based fibers. Its aim is to foster a more sustainable, place-based design approach while encouraging the use of underexplored fungal varieties. The project involves a growing collection of fungal species and the development of cultivation protocols for mycomaterials, laying the foundation for future applications in design, construction, and ecological innovation.
